Better Materials Make Better Parts
The increased sophistication of rapid prototyping (RP) equipment and the industrial push for more functionality from RP parts are pushing forward the science behind commercially-available RP materials. Javelin Digital Design has worked with RP systems since 1990 and can help you select the best material for your application.
1. Class VI Approved Stereolithography Materials
DSM Somos materials. Functional for prototpying medical devices, accurate for surgical guides, clear for anatomical models. Certified for:
ISO 10993-5 2009 Cytotoxicity
ISO 10993-10 2002 Irritation and Sensitivity
2. Cast Urethane Components - Suitable for Steam Autoclave
Need to test a design in an autoclave environment? Castable urethane materials are available for temperatures in the 250 - 300 degree F environment.
3. Metal Coated RP Components
Metal plating of RP parts allows them to be used in more aggressive and corrosive environments than would be possible from the part straight off the RP machine. Metal plating offers resistance to moisture, temperatures, humidity and corrosion. It also offers RFI shielding and opens up the possibility for rapid tooling.
R&D Background
Javelin Digital Design and Development has received numerous awards from Government agencies. These have been as both grants and contracts. Ms. Emory has served as the PI on the majority of R&D awards. She has also served as a consultant to the State of Montana and the State of Utah's SBIR outreach programs. From 1990 through 2004, Javelin (formerly Lone Peak Engineering) was awarded 9 Phase I SBIR awards, one STTR and one TRP Phase I project. Javelin has been awarded 5 Phase II SBIR projects and has received funding under the DOE Innovative Concepts program and been selected for the NIST Inventor's Program. Javelin has been awarded prime contracts from DARPA, Battelle Memorial Institute and Wright Patterson AFB (5 year program). Supporting agencies include: DARPA, NASA, US AF, US Army, US Navy, NSF, NIH and the DOE.
