The RP systems that we utilize are:
Stereolithography: This RP process utilizes a vat of liquid photopolymer and a laser to build parts a layer at a time. The laser beam traces a part cross-section pattern on the surface of each liquid resin layer. Exposure to the light solidifies the pattern traced on the resin and adheres it to the layer below.
After a pattern has been traced, the build platform descends by a single layer thickness, typically 0.05 mm to 0.15 mm (0.002" to 0.006"). Then, a resin-filled blade sweeps across the part cross-section, refreshing it with new material. On the new surface the subsequent layer pattern is traced, adhering to the previous layer. A complete part is formed by this process.
Build resin options include water-clear materials and photopolymers with either ABS or Polypropylene like properties. Expect tolerances to hold between 0.002 to 0.005".
Solidscape: This rapid tooling and prototyping systems produce highly-precise master patterns in a blue thermoplastic. Models and patterns built on these systems are ideal for precision design verification and production applications. The physical properties of the thermoplastic build material have been developed for investment casting applications. With build layers that range from 0.0005 in. (0.013 mm) to 0.0030 in. (0.076 mm) the achievable accuracy is +/- 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) per inch in X, Y and Z dimensions. Overall surface finish of 32-63 micro-inches (RMS) can be expected. The minimum feature size is 0.010 in. (0.254 mm).
Objet Eden: This 3D printing system offers high-resolution parts Horizontal layers of 16µ (0.0006”) are achievable and thin wall builds down to 0.6mm (0.024”) are possible. Since this system delivers smooth exterior and interior surfaces, including cavities, without the remnants characteristic of rigid support structures, it is ideally suited for many anatomical modeling applications.
